Round Too.
Yes, it’s a typical Jose pun, but it actually makes a bit of sense when you think about it. For one, I’m more round than I’ve ever been (but I’ve stopped gaining weight and leveled off!) and secondly, this isn’t the first time I’ve tried this blog thing. I had a blogspot account back in the day, a wordpress account, I tried to create a website to create a blog and have already failed once at this tumblr thing.
Truth is, every time I’ve done one of these blogs, there’s been no direction, no theme. I just post up random crap, and quickly run out of interest and stop.
Which is where I am now.
Which means it’s time for a reassessment.
Which means I need to redefine what a blog is to me.
When blog’s first came out, people used them to just talk about their life. And that’s fine and dandy. But unless you live an interesting life, it’s tough to write about the mundane a lot (unless you’re a facebook junkie and LOVE telling the world about how you wanted to eat a cheeseburger while driving to work). But as the internet has developed over time, people are less interested in hearing about you and more interested in hearing about the specific things you actually know. Unless you’re a celebrity, blogging about your day probably won’t garner much attention.
But what if you know a lot about nuclear fission? Blog about that. Do you enjoy checking out different state parks? Blog about that. You can sprinkle in things about your life, but instead of singling yourself out, you’re able to capture a dedicated following solely based on a knowledge or appreciation for a specific subject.
Are those not the blogs we tend to follow the most? Don’t get me wrong, blogging about oneself is not bad, it’s just that, from my perspective, this is what a popular blog has morphed into.
Now I’m not aiming for popularity. I just provide that context because, since that’s what I believe, I’m not truly going to enjoy my own blog unless I give it some sort of focus. It needs to be about something I truly enjoy.
It’s no secret that I love me some homemade or repurposed furniture as well as pictures of beautiful rooms. As a 24-year-old with a playful fetish for clean visual lines and bold colors, my man card has been put on probation. I still love me some football and Timberwolves basketball, but my real passion right now is figuring out what looks amazing in a cube with windows.
All four of you that follow my blog know where this is going.
I’ve erased everything I posted before this and am “repurposing” (see what I did there?) this entire blog to focus on my love for interior design and furniture.
“But John, so many people have done this thing too. The market on this kind of blog is puh-lenty saturated!”
Yep.
Don’t care.
This blog isn’t focused on showing what other people do. Treat this less like a blog and more like a timeline documenting my ultimate goal: creating my dream living space.
Sure, I’m going to occassionally post pictures that inspire an idea for furniture in my mind. Or maybe I’ll just put up a really cool interior design pic. Or just something that looks really freaking cool. But I would have to go out of my way to do that, so don’t expect too much on that front.
What I am going to try and do is update this weekly, almost as a diary of sorts, detailing the progress (or lack thereof) that I’m making towards finishing my projects.
There won’t be anything physical created in the foreseeable future. You can blame that on the cold and lack of funds in my bank account, but that won’t stop me from doing some other things. What those things are exactly is for another post (coming shortly). In the meantime, I’m taking a different approach to this blogging thing. Maybe I’ll actually use it more now, who knows.
Round Too?
Nah, Round Ate.
